Donald Trump has nominated Markwayne Mullin, a Republican senator from Oklahoma, to serve as the next Homeland Security secretary after the firing of Kristi Noem on Thursday. Mullin told reporters he plans to keep the Department of Homeland Security focused on “protecting the homeland.” He said he had spoken with Trump shortly before the announcement and had not yet talked with Noem but planned to call her soon, noting that their families are very close and the news happened quickly.
