Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni welcomed United States Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio to her homeland just hours before the 2026 Winter Olympic Games opening ceremony. During their meeting, Meloni said, "They are here for the opening ceremony of the Olympics, but it is also an opportunity for us to discuss our bilateral relations.” Vance added, "We love Italy and the Italian people. As you said, we have many excellent relations, many economic connections and partnerships.”
