As we disciple and train these young and zealous servants, I love sharing the need to evangelize devoted but unsaved Roman Catholics. Here is their lesson on how Martin Luther came to Christ entitled–The Staircase of Freedom: Standing Up from Religion, and Coming to Christ.
As we stand looking at the St. John Lateran and Scala Sancta, Church History recounts Martin Luther’s conversion. Climbing Pilate’s stairs on his knees, Luther realized "The just shall live by faith" (Habakkuk/Romans). He stood up, rejected works-based religion, and sparked the Reformation.
Historical Background:
• Scala Sancta: The steps from Pilate’s judgment hall in Jerusalem, brought to Rome.
• Ex Cathedra: The Pope’s chair in the Lateran representing church authority.
Key Lessons:
1. Faith vs. Crawling: Religion makes you crawl; the Gospel makes you stand.
2. The Threefold Quote: "The just shall live by faith" appears in Romans, Galatians, and Hebrews, defining the Christian life.
