The White House and Conservative MPs in the UK are urging the government to block the building of a new Chinese embassy in London.
The proposed site is between financial hubs in the City of London and Canary Wharf – and close to three data centres.
The US is reported to be concerned about the risk of espionage.
However, minister Peter Kyle told Trevor Phillips such projects are assessed "assiduously".
