A “brutally savage” Russian airstrike killed at least 24 people as they waited in line to collect their monthly pensions in eastern Ukraine on Tuesday, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The glide bomb hit the Donetsk region village of Yarova at around 11 a.m. local time as scores of citizens stood in line out in the open air – leaving at least 19 others injured, the Ukraine Emergency Service said.
“A brutally savage Russian airstrike with an aerial bomb on the rural settlement of Yarova in the Donetsk region. Directly on people. Ordinary civilians. At the very moment when pensions were being disbursed,” Zelensky wrote on X.
