Officials are hoping to file the case in the Eastern District of Virginia as prosecutors approach a legal deadline for bringing charges against one of Trump’s longtime political antagonists, people familiar with the matter told Reuters.
The investigation into Comey — who served as FBI director from 2013 until Trump fired him in 2017 — has been focused on whether he make false statements during his Sept. 30, 2020 congressional testimony related to the 2016 Trump-Russia collusion investigation.
