German Chancellor Friedrich Merz met with US President Donald Trump in Washington.
It’s the chancellor’s first visit to the US capital since taking office a month ago. He had a one-on-one meeting with President Trump, followed by a press event in the Oval Office and a working lunch. They discussed support for Ukraine and Germany’s plans to increase their military spending.
Before the meeting Chancellor Merz had made it clear that was not travelling to Washington begging for support, but as a confident representative of European positions.
