Following an accident at the Kalando Mine in the Democratic Republic of the Congo — where more than 80 workers lost their lives after a reported bridge collapse caused by heavy rains — a plane carrying the Congolese Mining Minister and a delegation of 17 officials crashed while attempting to land..
The Airjet Angola Embraer ERJ-145 veered off the runway at Kolwezi Airport. The aircraft caught fire after skidding to a halt on its belly, with flames erupting from the tail section. All passengers and crew evacuated moments before the aircraft was engulfed in flames. No injuries were reported, but the plane was completely destroyed by the fire.
