The NYPD bomb squad investigated a suspicious item near Gracie Mansion and evacuated an adjacent park Tuesday, just four days after thwarting a terror attack there — only to later deem the container and its liquid nonhazardous, according to cops and law-enforcement sources.
“UPDATE: The device in Carl Schurz Park has been cleared and determined to be non-threatening,” the NYPD said in a tweet. “This was an instance of everyday New Yorkers following a clear message: If you see something, say something. Call 888-NYC-SAFE.”
Cops responded to East 86th Street near East End Avenue on the Upper East Side in Manhattan around midday after reports of a suspect container on the promenade there, law enforcement sources said.
