Thousands of firefighters battled bushfires across Australia’s Victoria state, as fires sparked by an intense midweek heatwave burned more than 741,000 acres of bushland. At least 10 major fires remained active, destroying over 130 structures, cutting power to about 38,000 homes and businesses, and forcing widespread emergency responses.
