According to a new German study, young people who feel lonely are often skeptical about democracy. Around 60 percent of young people who described themselves as feeling "very lonely" said they do not believe that they can bring about political or social change. The report by the independent Bertelsmann Foundation claims that lonely young Germans are also susceptible to right-wing populism as many feel they are not being heard by politicians.
DW Chief Science Editor Zulfikar Abbany points out the methodological issues with the study, particularly given the high unemployment rate of the individuals surveyed in the Bertelsmann report.
