The war in the Middle East is about to get more complicated, and more deadly.
The US, UK, and France have urgently advised their citizens to leave Lebanon as escalating tensions in the region raise fears of a broader Middle Eastern conflict.
The US Embassy in Lebanon has urged its citizens to secure “any available ticket” to leave immediately. Similarly, Britain’s Foreign Secretary David Lammy has advised British nationals to “leave now.”

The region is on high alert after Iran vowed revenge on Israel, blaming it for the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran earlier this week. Haniyeh’s death came just hours after an Israeli strike in Beirut killed Hezbollah’s top military commander, Fu’ad Shukr.
These developments have heightened concerns that the ongoing conflict in Gaza, now well into its ninth month, could spill over into a full-scale Middle Eastern war. Hezbollah, based in Lebanon, is expected to play a significant role in any potential retaliation. The militant group has engaged in daily exchanges of fire with Israel; on Saturday night, Hezbollah fired 30 projectiles, most of which were intercepted by Israeli defenses.
Many countries had pre-existing travel warnings but have issued new advisories in light of the recent developments. France has instructed its citizens to arrange their departure from Lebanon “as soon as possible,” according to a statement from the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.

Jordan has issued a similar warning to its citizens, having been involved in shooting down Iranian drones during a retaliatory strike in April. Iran’s state news agency, IRNA, reported that Jordan’s Foreign Minister will visit Tehran to discuss bilateral, regional, and international issues.
Turkey has updated its travel advisory, urging those without essential reasons to stay in Lebanon to leave while commercial flights are still operating. Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Öncü Keçeli advised citizens to avoid traveling to certain regions within Lebanon and to leave if possible.
Airlines such as Air France, Lufthansa, and Kuwaiti Airlines have already canceled flights to and from Lebanon, while others have rerouted away from the country.

In a further sign of preparation for potential Iranian retaliation, the US has deployed a carrier strike group, a fighter squadron, and additional warships to the Middle East. This marks one of the largest movements of US forces to the region since the early days of the Gaza war, intended as a public warning to regional militant groups not to escalate the conflict.
White House deputy national security adviser Jon Finer stated that the US and Israel are preparing for “every possibility” following the Pentagon’s deployment of additional military assets. Finer emphasized that all posture adjustments are aimed at preparing for a potential response against Israel from Iran or other adversaries.
In Israel, citizens are preparing for possible escalations by stocking up on supplies. The Jerusalem municipality has advised residents to clean and prepare their bomb shelters, ensuring they can reach them within 90 seconds.
